James Arthur and Fritz Hager together for a memorable duet ‘Can I be him’ on the season 20 final on American Idol on Sunday, May 22.
The chart-topping, top-selling hitmaker and the fan-favorite Top 5 Idol finalist joined with the band to perform ” Can I Be Him,” the third single from Arthur’s sophomore Studio album “Back from to Edge.
Arthur as well as the 21-year-old Texas resident, Fritz Hager, both of who played guitar, and sang along to the hit chart.
After seeing a clip that featured Fritz Hager singing his hit song from 2017, “Can I Be Him,” on the internet, Arthur decided to have Fritz Hager sing with him in a duet to the fan-favorite song on the last episode of The 20th season of the Idol.
“Oh My Gosh,” Hager said when he first saw Arthur appearing on the recorded chat.
“Hey Fritz, how’s it going? I’m Jame Arthur I’m delighted to talk to you. I wanted to call to inform you that I as well as you will sing in a group,” Arthur told Hager via video chat. “We’re going to perform during the final. I was impressed by the fact that you performed an incredible rendition on one of my tracks. “I saw you do an incredible version of my song, “Can You Be Him’ and was stunned by the performance. It’s probably the greatest cover I’ve seen of the song. I’m sure we’ll perform a slick version of the song to surprise the American people.”
“Yeah, oh my gosh, dude! I’m just so thrilled,” Hager said in exuberance.
Furthermore, Hager recently released his debut single, “Hearts Align,” that he wrote alongside music producer King Henry (Beyonce, Diplo, LANY), and written by season 18 alums Francisco Martin and Drew Pearson.

The ‘American idol fans are not ready to accept the verdict of the judges or accept how their most beloved star Fritz Hager didn’t secure a place in the season 20 final. Although he has a loyal online following and other platforms, when Fritz was ejected from the show after his top 5 performance and was subsequently ejected, fans weren’t taking his departure lightly.
When Fritz returned for a surprise performance at the end of the show with country superstar James Arthur, fans had certain opinions regarding the duo’s performance. The two performed to James Arthur’s hit song Can I Be Him. With his guitar and smooth, buttery voice, Fritz managed to make the viewers in awe. The fans loved Fritz’s performances so that they declared Fritz’s voice was better than Arthur who was the creator of the song.
