Chris Paul Star of Phoenix Suns lead victory almost single-handedly turned a tight game against the Dallas Mavericks into a comfortable victory for Phoenix.
Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns poured it on in the fourth quarter, pulling away for a 129-109 victory over the Dallas Mavericks and a commanding 2-0 lead in their NBA playoff series.
Paul recorded 14 points of his total during the fourth quarter. Western Conference top seeds Phoenix opened a game that was close and fought off an impressive 35 points from Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic.

There was no tension in Miami the other day, as the top-seeded East Heat once again took advantage of the absence of Philadelphia superstar Joel Embiid as they rolled to a 119-103 win against the 76ers, taking a 2-0 lead in their best-of-7 series.

Dallas in an attempt to get home for games three and four, after a split of the two matches in Phoenix and had a lead of 60-58 by the halftime.

The Mavs were unable to solution for Paul who scored to a scoring run of 23-2 in the fourth quarter which effectively sealed the win for Phoenix with just a few minutes left.

Devin Booker scored 21 of his 30 points in the second quarter for the Suns which connected on an all-time franchise playoff record 64.5 percent on their attempts from the court. This included 52% from three-point range, as the Suns scored 13 baskets beyond the line.

Paul, a 12-time All-Star who will turn 37 old on Friday, has almost all by himself turned a close game into a win -winning the Suns eleventh win in a row, versus the Mavericks which counts regular-season games.

“You’ve just got to lean on the work,” Paul stated. “It is all about the work. You cannot cheat the game. You’ve got to practice the fitness and strength and lift, you’ve got to take your time, you had to keep your shots in.

“When you do that, you live with the results.”

Suns guard Devin Booker said he’s run out of ways to explain Paul’s heroics in the fourth quarter.

“You guys tell me, you’re watching the same thing,” Booker declared. “It amazes us each time we watch it however it doesn’t really surprise us. It’s simply the desire to be successful.”

The Mavs were leading 60-58 at the half, but the Suns quickly regained the advantage following Booker made a pair of 3-pointers in the early minutes during the 3rd. The Suns had an advantage of 89-83 heading into the final period and it appeared that a difficult battle was on the way.

However, it was around the time that Paul decided that the sport was in his handle by hitting six shots in succession in a variety of ways, from 3-pointers to mid-range jumpers and layups. The fierce Mavericks did not have a solution. Booker scored a pair of three-pointers midway through the fourth quarter to give the Suns an advantage of 114-95.

Booker was the top scorer for scoring for the Suns by scoring 30 points and 11-of-19 shooting which included 5 of 8 from the 3-point line. In the final quarter, the Suns scored 64.5 percent overall — an all-time record for the franchise in postseason play — but they hit 52percent of them three-pointers. They scored 84% from the court (16 from 19) in the fourth quarter.

“We have good players,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “I’d love to sit here and tell you I’m moving the chess pieces around, but we have good players who can knock down shots.”

Game 3 is on Friday in Dallas.

The Mavericks are in a 2-0 deficit, desperate for help from anyone who isn’t Luka Doncic who scored 35 points, shooting 13-of-22, just two days after scoring 45 during Game 1.

“He had a great game, but no one else showed,” Mavs coach Jason Kidd said. “We’ve to make sure that we have other players shooting better. It’s not enough to win with his scoring 30 points a night. It’s not this time of year, and with the top squad in the league.”

Reggie Bullock added 16 points for the Mavs.

“The mood is fine,” Doncic declared. “I think that for a majority of players are playing for the first time they’ve played in this kind of situation. They’ve had to win four times and it’s not over. We’re heading home, and our support is fantastic.”

The Suns were able to take an 8-0 lead in a second straight win but the Mavericks showed a more positive response as opposed to Game 1.

Dallas took a while to recover and Spencer Dinwiddie hit a pair of free shots to tie the game at 38. Davis Bertans followed with a 3-pointer with 7:56 remaining in the second half for the Mavs an advantage of 41-38 as well as their opening lead in the series. source

The Mavs were able to take a two-point lead after a flurry of fouls in the first half. Doncic scored 24 prior to the break, shooting 9-of-14 and four of seven from 3-point distance. Jae Crowder was the top scorer for the Suns with 15 points.
